Automation engineering for machine builders, system integrators and manufacturers
HAL Automation provides programming, commissioning and engineering support for automated production equipment. An engagement can be a complete scope from specification through to acceptance, a software package prepared offline, or a defined part of a project carried out alongside your own team.
Engineering capacity rarely becomes available at the same rate as orders. A project is awarded, mechanical design moves ahead, and the software work has to begin before the engineers planned for it are free. Recruitment takes time, and experienced people are not always available at short notice.
HAL Automation is set up to cover that period. Work is agreed as a defined package with a scope, a price and a date, written to the client's standard and managed within the client's project.

We write and validate the software, your people take it to site. A complete project with structured program, HMI, safety program, alarm list and design documents, at a fixed price.
Commissioning on site — of our program or somebody else's — plus remote support on VPN during your own commissioning, troubleshooting and retrofits.
These are the shapes an engagement usually takes. Scope is agreed project by project and is not limited to them.

With today's toolchain — a simulated controller and a model of the machine — the large majority of a machine's software can be written and functionally validated on a PC long before the hardware is assembled. Sequences, interlocks, recipe and variant handling, HMI behaviour, alarm logic and fault recovery do not need real steel to be proven. They need a model and the discipline to test against it.
The benefit is a shorter commissioning: the team on site works on mechanics and sensors rather than writing sequences under time pressure. It is one way of working among several — many projects are simply programmed and commissioned in the usual sequence — but where a schedule is tight it can save a considerable amount of time on site.
More than fifty machines and cells, in nine countries, over more than ten years. Most of that work has been in automotive production — assembly, welding, bonding, injection moulding and press lines — and it also covers hydrogen equipment, building materials and other industrial manufacturing. End customers have included Stellantis, Renault, Faurecia, OP Mobility, Saint-Gobain, Opel, Novares, SNOP and McPhy.
A production line rarely contains one brand, and neither does our experience. Controllers from Siemens, Schneider and Allen-Bradley; HMI and SCADA on WinCC, Proface and Zenon; robots from FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots, Yaskawa and Kawasaki; motion from Festo, SEW and Lenze; vision and sensing from Cognex, Keyence, SICK and IFM; safety with Profisafe, Pilz and SICK. We work with the platforms a machine already uses, or with those a client's standard specifies. The list below reflects what we have worked with to date rather than a limit on what we will take on.
