Automation engineering for machine builders, system integrators and manufacturers

Training

Video courses drawn from the work described elsewhere on this site: short screen-recorded lessons, narrated, each supplied with the project files used in it. One sample lesson is below, in full.

Sample lesson — free

A complete lesson from the TIA Portal course. Every lesson in every course follows this format.

Format

Courses

Each course covers one platform and is built the same way: the project structure first, then the parts of the environment that decide how well the program survives its own lifetime.

Controller platforms

Siemens TIA Portal

Block access modes, data block design, symbolic addressing, and the project architecture that keeps a multi-station machine maintainable over its life.

In preparation

Schneider EcoStruxure

Control Expert and Machine Expert: project organisation, DFB and function block libraries, variable handling, and the patterns that carry across the M580 and M262 families.

In preparation

Rockwell Studio 5000

Logix Designer: tag and UDT design, Add-On Instructions, program and routine structure, and what keeps a ControlLogix project readable as the machine grows.

In preparation

Robot platforms

ABB — RAPID and RobotStudio

RAPID module structure, tool and work object frames, offline programming and simulation in RobotStudio, and the signal exchange with the cell controller.

In preparation

FANUC — TP and ROBOGUIDE

TP program structure and KAREL where it earns its place, frame and payload setup, offline work in ROBOGUIDE, and the handshake with the cell controller.

In preparation

KUKA — KRL and WorkVisual

KRL program structure, tool and base calibration, configuration in WorkVisual, and the interface between the KR C controller and the machine sequence.
